Week of December 12, 2022

- I hope you enjoyed the Christmas Concert last week. The kids looked and sounded wonderful. We hope it put you in the Christmas spirit! There are only 8 full days before Christmas Break, and a lot is going on, so please read all the reminders.

- Due to our field trip, we are moving our class Christmas party to Tuesday, 12/20. If you volunteered to send something in, please send it in by next Tuesday morning. Thank you!

- Report cards will be sent home tomorrow. Please remember that these grades are a reflection of your child's work in school, along with their test scores. You may keep the actual report card at home. Please just sign and return the envelope. If you have any questions, please let me know.

- Test folders will be sent home on Tuesday. Please sign and return on Wednesday.

- On Tuesday afternoon, we will go to Santa's Secret Shop. Please mark the envelope with who your child is shopping for and how much to spend on each person. It is really helpful to the volunteers and me. Envelopes will be sent home today, so please send them back in for tomorrow. Thanks!

-We will have math test on Wednesday on place value. A review will be sent home for homework.

- Friday will be a Dress Down Day. Please send in $1.00 to dress down. Thank you!

- The 7th grade is collecting new socks for the homeless. If you would like to donate, please send them in this week! 

- If anyone else would like to chaperone the bowling trip on Wednesday, December 21st, please email me. I am still looking for 2 volunteers. The permission form and payment info can be found here:  1st and 8th grade Bowling Trip December 2022  Please complete this by Friday of this week.

Week of December 5, 2022

 Please Note

- I hope you all had a nice weekend! We have another busy week here with the Christmas Concert and no school on Thursday!  

- Tuesday night will be the K-4 Christmas Concert. The kids should wear their Sunday/Christmas best. Please, no jeans. Please have your child arrive at church by 6:45pm. They can go right to their pew where we have been practicing. After the performance, you can pick them up from their pew. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!  

- No school on Thursday due to the Holy Day. There is a pizza party after the 12:10 pm Mass Thursday. You can sign up HERE if you would like to attend.

- There will be a spelling and reading test on Friday. The spelling words are more difficult with the long vowel patterns, so please be sure to have them study.

- We have our Monthly Mass on Friday at 9:00am.  All are welcome!

- Report cards will be given out next week.

- Our annual 1st and 8th Grade Buddy Bowling trip will be on December 21st.  You can find the permission slip and payment information HERE.

Please Note

- I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends. This week we will start our second reading unit and start learning long vowels, we will also start a new math unit on place value and begin to practice for the Christmas Concert which will be held next week! 

- The first trimester ends this Friday. Report cards will sent home on Tuesday, 12/13.

- Wednesday will be a dress down day to help fund the tree lighting. If your child would like to dress down please send in $5.00 on Wednesday.

- The tree lighting will be on Wednesday night from 6-8 pm! All are welcome!

- Test folders will be sent home on Friday.

- There will be a Religion test on Chapter 5 on Thursday.  A study guide will be sent home today.

-Next Tuesday, 12/6 at 7:00 pm will be the K-4 Christmas Concert! The students are to wear their Christmas best!

Congratulations to out Peacemaker, Sam!

Please Note

-We had another great week last week and will keep going strong into the holiday season. This week we will have our last reading and spelling test for our first unit and also will have a math test on fact families.

- We have our first field trip on Wednesday to see the Wizard of Oz at Carroll High School.  The kids can wear their gym uniforms to school.  We will eat lunch a little later when we return to school.  If you have not filled out the permission form or paid please do so ASAP.  You can find the link here: Field trip to Wizard of Oz at Archbishop Carroll Nov 16th 

- IXL, Starfall, and Kids A-Z logins were sent home last week.  If you have any trouble logging in please let me know.

Week of November 7, 2022

Please Note

-Thanks to everyone for taking the time to meet for conferences.  I appreciate your time.  The kids have already grown so much since September and it is exciting to see their skills develop and grow. We will start learning long vowel patterns after we finish this story and start our second reading unit.

- Thanks for all of the donations for the troops. We collected five boxes of supplies to send, and the kids also made cards with their buddies to send. Thanks to Mrs. Chott for the idea and for helping organize this.

- Our Monthly Mass for November will be this Tuesday at 9:00 am.  All are welcome! 

- Chapter 4 Religion test will be on Friday.  A study guide was sent home today.

First Grade Loves Having Mystery Readers

Please Note

-This week we will have our Saints Celebration! Be sure to read the reminders about the special day below.

- This is the last week to send in donations for our troops.  Please do so by Friday.  Thanks so much!

- We will be going on our first field trip to see "The Wizard of Oz" at Carroll High School on Wednesday, November 16th.  Be on the look out for the permission form and payment link. We will not need chaperones for this trip, but don't worry, we have a bowling trip in December with our 8th grade buddies where we will need volunteers.

- For the first three stories we kept the sight and spelling words to six each so that they kids could get used to studying them and to prepare for the test. Please note that we will now have ten sight words and eight spelling words per story. 

- Test folders will be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return them on Wednesday.

- Friday will be a Phillies Dress Down Day. The kids can wear their Phillies gear under their saint costumes.

- Just a reminder to mark your calendar: No school on Tuesday, 11/1 and Friday, 11/4. 

- Conferences will be held Thursday, 11/3 (afternoon/evening) and Friday 11/4. Thanks for signing up!


Saint Presentation reminders:

- The presentation will be at 9:00am on Friday and will last about 40 minutes.  We ask that all family members sit on the side pews (left and right of the altar).

- The kids are to come to school dressed in their costumes over their gym uniforms or Phillies gear. Sneakers are fine.

- Please make sure robes are not too long as we will be walking to and from the church. Also, bobby pins tend to not keep veils on so if you can attach them to a headband that would be great.

Week of October 17, 2022

We enjoyed learning about the Scientific Method and some of us were shocked when our hypotheses that a marble would float, and a pumpkin would sink were proven invalid!


Please Note

- The saint reports were so well done.  Thank you for all of your work helping them.  The kids are enjoying learning about many different saints.  We will be getting ready for our Saints Celebration over the next two weeks.  Look for more reminders to follow.  

- The 7th grade will be selling popsicles for $1.00 at recess on Tuesday and Thursday to raise money for Cases for Smiles. Raffle tickets will also be sold for a chance to win variety of different prize baskets.

- If you would like to donate to our service project for the troops this month please send in snacks, gum and candy (please no chocolate) All donations are due by Friday, October 28th.  Thanks so much for your help with this!

- Be on the lookout for conference sign ups tomorrow through Sign Up Genius. They will be held Thursday, 11/3 (afternoon/evening) and the morning of Friday 11/4.  If you can not make any of the times available, please let me know and we can schedule a time throughout the week that works better for you. Also, if you do not feel the need to meet at this time, that is okay, but please let me know that you are choosing to opt out at this time so I know.  Thank you!

- We will have a Chapter 3 Religion test on Wednesday.

- There is a Virtual Home and School Meeting on Thursday night at 7:00 pm.  Minding Your Mind will be presenting about anxiety in children. The zoom link will be sent out.

- Reading and Spelling test on Friday on A Musical Day.

- Friday is the JDRF Walk with the Principal to raise awareness for Juvenile Diabetes.

- Our monthly Mass will be on Friday at 9:00 am.  We will be doing a Living Rosary in the school yard before Mass at 8:30.  All are welcome to join us!

Please Note

- Happy October! The kids are settling in and have been doing a great job. I cannot believe we are finished with September already. October will certainly fly by as well.

- Information about the first grade Saints Presentation was sent home last week. Each child may choose any saint they want.  The report will be due next Wednesday 10/12, so please work on it this week. Please make sure the report and the picture are done neatly. Don't forget to have your child practice reading their report because they will be sharing it with the class. The Saints Presentation will be on Friday, October 28th at 9:00 am in the Church. 

- We will have a gym assembly on Thursday about Growth Mindset. Mrs. Marchese will be sending home more information about it this week.

- There will be a Religion test on Chapter 2 on Wednesday.  A study guide will be sent home today.

- There will be a Spelling and Reading test on Friday for our story "How Animals Communicate." 

- Looking ahead, we have off on Monday, 10/10 and winter uniforms will start Tuesday, 10/11.

- We will have our first math quiz on Friday.  We will be reviewing in school this week and a review will be sent home for homework on Thursday night.

- A paper explaining the Saints Presentation was sent home today.  Please read it carefully and mark down the dates.  The report will be due on Wednesday, October 12th and the presentation will be on Friday, October 28th.  If you have any questions please let me know.

Please Note

- We will have our first school Mass on Wednesday at 9:00am. All are welcome to join us!

- We will have our first Religion test on Thursday. Normally a study guide will be sent home for your child to study, but this week we will take it together in school to get used to it. I did send one home today if you want to start practicing with your child.

- We will have our first reading test on the story "Jack and the Wolf" this Friday. I will read all of the questions and answers for the first few tests. The reader will be sent home this week so you can read and review the story at home.

- Our first Spelling test will also be on Friday. We have been practicing a lot with short a words in school. Please review the words at home each night as well.

- Sight Words will also be tested on Friday so please make sure you are reviewing them each night.
