Week of October 24th

Please Note

- The Saint Celebration is on Friday at 9:00am in the church. Students costumes are due on Thursday in a labeled bag. They are to wear their gym uniforms to school on Friday. Please be sure to sit on the sides of the church.

- There will be a Religion test on Friday on Chapter 3. A study guide will be sent home.

- FYI the SKS Home and School Raffles are due Thursday.

- The Halloween-a-thon is Monday! Students are to wear their gym uniforms to school and they are to bring their costumes in a labeled bag. All make-up should be done at home before coming to school. If you could make sure your child knows how to put on their costume it would be a big help!

- Please be sure you sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences with are November 3rd and 4th.

Our Week

Religion
We will finish Chapter 3 "Jesus Grew Up in a Family". We will learn about the birth of Jesus and the Holy Family. We will have a test on Friday.

Math
This week we will continue our unit on addition. We will learn that adding is putting two parts together to make a whole. We will also learn the terms "addend" and "sum".  We will practice writing addition sentences (2 + 3 = 5) and drawing pictures to illustrate addition sentences. We will also start using ten frames and the number line to add.  We will have a quiz on addition next Thursday.

Week of October 17th


Please Note

  • We will have a spelling and reading test on Friday.
  • A Sign-Up Genius for conferences will be sent out to you this week. Conferences will be on Thursday, November 3rd and Friday, November 4th.
  • Wednesday, October 19th is Grandparents/Special Friends Day. Grandparents or special friends are invited to join us in the cafeteria at 10:30am to enjoy some light refreshments and to make a small craft. After that we will head to the library to shop for books. It would be helpful if you send money in a labeled envelope. If you know which books they would like to buy, you may also write the titles on the envelope. Thanks for your help!
  • Don't forget to mark your calendars for the First Grade Saints Celebration which will be on Friday, October 28th at 9:00am. We will read our reports this week to learn about everyone's saint. Please start getting a simple costume together for the celebration.
  • We will be going to Highland Orchards for our first field trip on Friday, November 11th! Permission forms and information were sent home last week. Please return the form and the money (cash/check) by Friday, October 21st. If you have ALL of your clearances and would like to chaperone please email me or send me a note. I will pick chaperones out of a hat this week.
  • Thursday, October 20th will be a Dress Down Day. Please send in $1.00 to dress down.
  • Friday, October 21st is "Walk With the Principal" to raise awareness for JDRF. Students are to wear their gym uniforms to school. If your child has a JDRF t-shirt they may wear that in place of their gym shirt. Please note that the winter uniform for gym includes sweatpants. Students must wear sweatpants to school every gym day. They can wear shorts underneath and wear them in gym class if they want, but sweatpants must be worn for the rest of the day. Thanks for your cooperation.

Week of October 10th




Please Note

  • Tests will be sent home on Tuesday. Please be sure to review, sign and return on Wednesday.
  • We will begin writing our daily homework in our "H" Copybook.  The H copybook will also have our spelling words.  Our first spelling test will towards the end of NEXT week.
  • There will be a religion test this Thursday.
  • School pictures will be on Thursday, October 13th.  Children should wear their winter uniform.
  • Friday is a Pink Dress Down Day.  Please bring $1.00 to support Breast Cancer Awareness.
  • Information about the First Grade Saints Celebration was sent home last week. The kids should be working on their short report this week as it is due Monday, October 17th. They may choose any saint they want! Please make sure the report and the picture is done neatly. Don't forget to have your child practice reading their report because they will be sharing it with the class for a grade.  See example above :-)

  • The Book Fair and Grandparents/Special Friends Day will be on Wednesday, October 19th.  Our class is scheduled to attend from 10:30-11:30 am. Grandparents are welcome to come in and shop and to make a small craft with their grandchild. If grandparents can't make it, a "special friend" like an aunt, uncle etc. will do! A flyer will be sent home this week.

Week of October 3rd


Please Note



  • Our School  Mass is this Tuesday at 9:00 am. All are welcome!
  • Tests will be sent home on Tuesday. Please be sure to review, sign and return on Wednesday.
  • The Cradle to Crayons pod will be here all week. If you would like to donate any gently used clothing, shoes, books, baby items or school supplies please send them to school in a bag or drop them off outside of the cafeteria.
  • The Respect Life Club is collecting baby pictures of students to put on a bulletin board to celebrate Respect Life Month. If you would like to send in a picture of your child please put it in an envelope marked with their name. The picture will be returned.
  • There will be both a math and reading test this Friday.

Math
This week we will finish up with first unit learning how to compare numbers using the <, >, = signs. We will also practice with ordinal numbers. A test will be given on Friday. Students will be asked to order numbers, write numbers that come before, after and between, and also compare numbers using the correct signs.
