Week of November 18, 2019

Please Note

- We are starting Unit 3 in reading this week. There will now be 12 Sight Words instead of 10. We will also being reviewing short vowels and working with beginning and ending blends and digraphs. Please continue to review short vowels with your child at home (in their reading copybooks.)  There will be a short vowel assessment before Christmas break.

- Test folders will be sent home Wednesday. Please sign and return.

- There will be a Religion test on Chapter 5 on Friday. A study guide will be sent home today.

- If you have any extra Halloween candy that you want to donate to the homeless please send it in this week.

We will continue our unit on subtraction this week. We will practice counting back on a number line and also with 10 frames.

Week of November 11, 2019

- Happy Veteran's Day! Today talked about how lucky we are to have such brave men and women helping to take care of our country.

- Thanks to everyone for taking the time to meet with me at conferences. If you have any follow up question please do not hesitate to ask!

- There will be a short math test tomorrow on adding 3 numbers and related facts. A review sheet will be sent home today.

- Our Monthly Mass for November will be on Wednesday at 9:00 am. All are welcome!

- On Wednesday, we will also be filling the shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. A flyer was sent home last week with ideas of what to buy. Please send those in by Wednesday. Thanks for your support!

- There will be a Reading and Spelling test on Friday for A Cupcake Party.

- On Friday, we will go over to the gym and watch the dress rehearsal of SKS Got Talent.  We are very excited to see the acts!

This week we will start our subtraction unit. We will learn that subtracting means to "take away." We will learn how to write number sentences and use pictures to help us solve problems. We will also use number lines and ten frames to help us solve problems.

We will continue our unit on addition. We will practice adding but using ten frames and number lines.  We will practice using 'tricks' when solving addition problems (doubles, doubles plus one, counting on from the larger number.)  We will also work with adding 3 addends.
