Week of October 23, 2023

Please Note

- We have our monthly mass on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. All are welcome to join us!

- We will go on our first field trip to Saunders Woods on Thursday. The kids can wear their gym uniforms to school for the trip. We will be doing some light hiking so please make sure they wear good shoes or boots. The kids also need to pack a snack for the bus and a lunch.

- Test folders will be sent home on Wednesday. Please return them on Thursday.  Please be sure to review, sign, and return all tests.  They should keep them in their "T" (test) folders.  If you did not send them back last week and still have them, please put them in the T folder. (Sorry I neglected to send these directions last week!)

- There will be no tests this week, but please study the words because we will have the tests next week.

-This week we will have our Saints Celebration!  Here are some reminders:

  •  The presentation will be at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and will last about 40 minutes.  We ask that all family members sit on the side pews (left and right of the altar).
  • The kids are to come to school dressed in their costumes over their gym uniforms. Sneakers are fine.
  • Please make sure any robes are not too long as we will be walking to and from the church. Also, bobby pins do not keep veils on so if you can attach them to a headband or use clips that would be great.

-Have a great week and GO PHILS!

Week of October 2, 2023

Here's an example of a well-done saint report.
(It does not HAVE to be both sides.)

Please Note

Happy October! The kids are settling in and have been doing a great job. I cannot believe we are finished with September already. October will certainly fly by as well. Here are your reminders for this week:

- Information about the first grade Saints Presentation was sent home last week. Each child may choose any saint they want. The report will be due next Wednesday 10/11, so please work on it this week. Please make sure the report and the picture are done neatly. Don't forget to have your child practice reading their report because they will be sharing it with the class for a grade. The Saints Presentation will be on Friday, October 27th at 9:00 am in the Church.

- If you haven't signed the permission form or paid for the field trip on Thursday, October 26th please do so this week. The permission form can be found HERE.  If you would like to be in the drawing for a chaperone, last call to let me know. (If you already sent an email, I have your name already in the hat.)  Please note that no siblings are permitted.  I will let you know who the chaperones will be by the end of this week.

- We will have a math quiz tomorrow on number sense and addition. A review will be sent home tonight for homework.

- We've decided with the new reading series and the weekly testing that we will take the Religion tests together in school. Hopefully, this will allow more time to focus on reading and math at home. We will take the Chapter 2 quiz together on Thursday.

- There will be a spelling, sight word, and reading quiz on Friday. Please study spelling and sight words each night.

- You will find all of your child's app logins on the inside cover of their Homework Copybook. We have used all the apps in school, with the exception of XTra Math, so they should be familiar if you want to use them at home. I highly suggest using Xtramath a few nights each week to reinforce math facts once we get that app introduced later this week.

- We will have an author visit on Friday afternoon. If you are interested in ordering the book please use this link:  https://childrensbookworld.net/moyle-oct-5-at-st-katharine/

- Looking ahead, we have off on Monday, 10/9 and winter uniforms will start on Tuesday, 10/10.

-That is all for this week, please let me know if you have questions about anything!  Thanks, Melissa

-The children are loving Mystery Reader.  Here is the link if you have not signed up yet.  If you can not find a time that works for you, please let me know and we can find a time.
