Chapter 18:  We Are Followers of Jesus
Jesus is the Light of the World; We receive the light of Christ
1.  Share and discuss pages 208-211.  Complete activity on 209.
2.  Discuss how Jesus is the Light of the World.  We receive the light of Christ at Baptism.  As 'children of the light' we make the world a better, brighter place when we share God's love by living as Jesus taught us.  We are an example of the light of Christ for all to see through our kind words and actions.

Reading
1.  Copy new Spelling Words for Little Rabbit's Tale into Reading Copybook (see pic above.)  Notice we have compound words this week.  When practicing, be sure to sound out each little word separately but do not leave a space between your words.

Math
Complete 'Measure It' worksheets (pages 5 and 6 in packet.)
  • Use inches to measure items inside (page 5) and outside (page 6) of your house.
  • Remember to line your ruler up starting at ZERO, not the edge, and measure from the beginning of your object to the end.  You can decide whether you want to measure how long or how tall your object is.
  • Remember to estimate means to GUESS...so be sure to guess BEFORE you measure!  Then think about how your estimate compares to the actual measurement.
Religion
We can make choices as children of God.
1.  Read and discuss pages 214 and 215.
2.  Focus discussion on 'We Respond' section on 215
3.  Here is a story about how making choices can be a superpower!  Watch What Should Danny Do?.  In this version, Danny makes a series of bad choices.  How do those bad choices affect Danny's day?  How do they affect the people around him?  Now watch this version with Danny making good choices.  How did making good choices affect Danny's day?  How did Danny's good choices affect the rest of his family?


Optional:  Want to know more about Danny's choices?  Search What Should Danny Do? on YouTube for different versions of the story.  There is also a second book called What Should Danny Do?  School Days.

Small group Zooms - Lesson on prepositions and a directed drawing using inches.  Please sign up here for a time.  They will need the 'Interactive Notebook Page:  Prepositions' (page 7 of reading packet) and the last page of their math packet.  They will also need their reading copybook, ruler, scissors, glue or tape, a pencil, and crayons.


Reading
1. Zoom lesson for Prepositions.  We will complete page 7 in reading packet together.
2.  Complete 'I Can Pyramid Write My Words' (pages 5 and 6 in reading packet.) Follow example at top right hand corner of page.

Reading
1. Review Sight Words and Spelling Words.
2. Complete 'Vocabulary' pages (2 sides) in Reading Packet to practice sight words.
3.  Reread Tomas Rivera (pages 124-143) before Zoom Meeting.
4.  Sequence of Events and Comparing Length Zoom.  Please sign up for a time that works for you.  We will do pages from the Reading Packet together so please have scissors, glue (or tape if no glue), and a pencil ready along with your Reading Packet.  ** I also need to have them edit a few things in their packet before their work tomorrow.  Thanks!

Chapter 17 - The Church Welcomes New Members at Baptism
1. Read and discuss pages 198 and 199.  Do activity on page 198.

  • Talk about how all living things need water to live and grow.  
  • Remember the signs of new life that we noticed last week.  All of the rain we have in spring helps that new life to grow.  
  • Explain that God’s life in us is called grace.  We receive God’s grace in us when we are baptized.
  • Water is used at Baptism to remind us that we grow with God’s life in us.
  • We are God’s children and we grow with God’s love in us.

Chapter 17 - The Church Welcomes New Members at Baptism
1. Read and discuss pages 200, 201, 202, and 203
2.  Do activity on page 203.  Draw symbols used for Baptism to decorate your candle.
3. Revisit the pictures or discussion of your child’s baptismal day.

  • Talk about who was there and who their special godparents are.  
  • Notice or discuss the special words, actions, and symbols used on that day. 
  • Remind them that a sign of the cross is traced on the forehead to show that we will soon be followers of Jesus.
  • Holy water is used as a sign of God’s life in us.
  • A white garment is used to remind us that we are followers of Jesus.
  • A candle is lit to remind us to always walk in the light of Christ.

Reading
1. Reread Tomas Rivera (124-143) and take your test. I only read the questions on the first page (not the answer options). They complete the rest themselves. Help them if they have any questions with directions.
2. Review spelling words and give them the spelling test.

Math
1. Complete pages 13 and 14 in Math Packet (Measure It)

  • Choose a non-standard measuring tool to measure items around the house or outside.  (Lego pieces of same size, Pokemon Cards, dried pasta, Cheez-Its, whatever you want as long as it is smaller than the items you are measuring and you have enough of the same thing to measure with.)
  • Remember your measuring units must be the same size while measuring an object so do not mix measuring tools.
  • Remember to line your measuring unit up starting at the edge, of beginning of the object you are measuring, and to have your measuring unit touching the unit before and after it in a straight line.
  • Remember to estimate means to GUESS...so be sure to guess BEFORE you measure!  Then think about how your estimate compares to the actual measurement.
  • Choose a different measuring tool for each side of your paper and be sure to write what it is on the line under the title.
Optional:  Make your own 'Measure It' chart on blank paper and choose different non-standard units to measure more objects!

1.  Use your coins to show different ways to make 100 cents/one dollar.
2.  Complete Fat Math pages 369 and 370.


Religion
1. Read the story of Easter on pages 308-309
2. Discuss how Easter is a time to celebrate new life. Make a connection between Easter,
the season of Spring and new life. In Spring, there is so much new life like plants, flowers,
baby animals, etc.
3. Have your child go outside and look for signs of new life.

Reading
1. Practice sight words and spelling words.
2. Reading Workbook pages 56 and 58 to review spelling words.
3.  Watch this video to review synonyms and this video to review contractions.
4.  Complete both ‘Synonyms” pages and the “Contraction Match Up’ page in your packet
(pages 7, 8, and 9).


Math
1.  Optional Zoom meetings to review for Math test.  If you are able to attend, use the
Sign-Up Genius link and I will send you the meeting link Wednesday evening.
We will complete Fat Math Book pages 371 and 372 TOGETHER so please have your
Fat Math book and a pencil ready.
2.  Complete pages 363 and 364 on your own.  Directions: Count the coins and color in
the circle for the amount.


Religion
1. Decorate the Alleluia banner on page 310 - draw the signs of new life that you saw
outside yesterday!
2. Complete the secret message on page 312

Reading
1. Review sight words and spelling words.
2. Complete ‘Write It 3 Ways’ (page 11 in packet) to practice spelling words.  They can use
pencils, markers, crayons, rainbow, fancy letters, bubble letters, tiny letters, big letters, etc -
any 3 ways they want.
3. Watch this video to review the sequence of events. Complete ‘Sequence and Write’
(page 12 in packet)
Use the pictures to guide you in writing the sequence of events for making an ice cream
sundae.  Glue the pictures in order, then use the words in the word bank to help you
NEATLY write about the sequence of events using first, next, and last.
4.  On the back of the page create a sequence of events for your own action. 
(Making your bed, tying your shoe, blowing a bubble...choose your own action!) 
Set your paper up just like the page you just completed.  
  • First, start with the title of your action at the top of your paper.  
  • Next, draw step one on the top left side, draw step two at the top middle, and step three on the top right of your paper.  * Remember to leave room for 3 sentences!
  • Last, write sentences using first, next, and last to show the sequence of events for your action.


Math
1.  Complete Money Test (attached to weekly email.)


Religion
Make the 'My Prayer Book' on pages 325-328 in the back of your Religion Book.
1.  Gently tear out the pages.
2.  Cut across the page - ONLY ON THE DOTTED LINES
3.  Fold pages on the solid black lines and put pages in order.
4.  Read your Prayer Book and put it somewhere you can read it often.  Think of all of
our special intentions as you pray.
