Week of September 22, 2025

Sample of a well-done saint report.

It does not need to be two sides.

Please Note

- I hope you had a great weekend! I can't believe we are in the last full week of September already. We will continue working on our routines, but the kids are settling in and doing great! We have a relatively calm week, but there are numerous reminders.

- Just a reminder to review all spelling and high-frequency words each night to prepare for the weekly Friday tests. There will also be a comprehension and grammar portion that we will prepare for in school.  There are grammar pages in the reading copybook, along with their words, for them to review as well.

- Homework has been great!  Thank you for checking your child's homework for neat handwriting and completeness. We've been working on writing neatly and in lowercase letters in school, using the proper lines, and it is helpful when you continue to reinforce this at home.  Please have them use pencil only, unless the directions call for coloring.  There are now pages in the back of their reading copybooks that show the correct letter formation.  If anyone would like a packet for extra handwriting practice, just let me know.  Thank you for your help with this.

- A paper explaining the Saints Celebration will be sent home this week. Please read it carefully and mark down the dates. The report will be due on Wednesday, October 8th and the celebration will be on Friday, October 24th.

- We have our first field trip planned to Riverbend on Monday, October 20th.  You will be invoiced for the cost of the trip through your FACTS account. The invoice will have the permission waiver in the form, and payment of the fee will complete both steps.  We will need up to 5 chaperones for our class. The trip will run from approximately 9:45 to 1:00.  Sorry, no younger siblings are permitted.   If you have your clearances and are interested, please email me back and I will pick from a hat next week.

- Looking ahead, winter uniform will begin on Monday, October 6th.

-Have a great week!

- We started our first unit in reading today on "How Plants and Animals Change". We have begun making our flashcards for the high-frequency words this week. They will go home in your child's 'pet bag' and will come home each night. Please make sure everything is returned to school each day. The high-frequency words and spelling words for the week can also be found in your child's "R Copybook" and at the bottom of this communication.  (They must know how to spell the spelling words, but only to read the high-frequency words.)

- Please review all spelling words and high-frequency words each night to prepare for the test on Friday. There will also be a comprehension portion of the reading test, which we will prepare for in school.

- The children will bring home their 'Pet Bags' each night.  In this bag will be a 'pet' they can read to along with their word cards and books for nightly practice.  Please be sure to send these back to school each day.  They are meant to be read multiple times to practice the reading skills we are working on.

- We have begun logging in to our apps at school.  You can use these apps for extra practice at home as well.  Logins will be listed in the front of their Homework Copybook.

Week of September 8, 2025

Our First Day of First Grade

 Please Note

- The first few weeks of school are important for setting expectations and learning our classroom routines and procedures. Students thrive in environments where they feel comfortable and know what is expected of them. I encourage you to have expectations and routines at home as well. It is a goal of first grade to help your child become more responsible, organized, and independent.

- Please check your child's "Home Folder" with them every night. They can empty out any papers that were completed in school.  If anything needs to be sent to school, notes or homework worksheets for example, please place it in the folder.  Our 'H' and 'R' copybooks "live" in their Home folder.  This folder should be returned to school along with their copybooks and book pouches each day.

- Homework is assigned each day and should be completed daily, not weekly like in kindergarten.

-Back to School Night for grades 1-4 is this Thursday, September 11th, at 6:30.  If you can not make it, just let me know.  Everyone will be provided with the information digitally as well.

-Our class has gym on Wednesdays, and library books are due on Mondays.

- Mystery Reader will be on Mondays at 2:00.  Here is the Mystery Reader Sign-Up.  Each family can sign up twice (if you wish).  If you cannot make it during any of these time slots, or if they are full, please let me know so we can work out a time that is convenient for you. You may choose to have your child help you pick out the books for you to read, or you may keep it a ‘mystery’ and choose the books yourselves.  Please plan to read for about 20 minutes or so.  Younger siblings are welcome.  Treats and gifts are NOT permitted.  Thanks for your cooperation. We look forward to your visit!

- Here is a link to our schedule and class list.

- Here is a link for September Craft Club if you are interested.  Craft Club is on Tuesday afternoons.  We complete a craft, have snack, do our homework, and enjoy some outdoor play.

- Please email me with any questions or concerns :)

-Have a great week!
